-“I love you”….. just when did such beautiful words became an instrument to hurt a person? Why do people stay away from those who love them, just because they don’t like the person the same way? Maybe it isn’t about the words, but what comes after the words. Love isn’t for everyone, which is why people are made differently, so that there won’t be any chances for some hearts to meet. If the simple act of saying I love you to the person you like will cause pain, then why did I said it myself?
We’ve spent the whole afternoon together, just me and her on a beautiful park. I can’t explain my feelings that every time she smiles, I blush. Every time she’s near me, my heart skips a beat. Every time she speaks, I hear an angel’s voice, and every time she looks at me, my breath is taken away. It sure is weird, liking someone is weird….love is weird.
We were walking along a path filled with flowers and colorful bushes, when she stopped as soon as her eyes took glance of the statue at the center of the park. She stared at it for a while, then she asked:
“Do you know the story behind that statue?” She asked, without really expecting an answer.
“A statue of a brave lion and a heroic man reaching the hands of a beautiful angel, what story could it be telling? I asked back, for I really have no idea.
Then she looked back at me smiling, ready to answer her own question.
“The statue is about a beautiful goddess and a humble man. The man doesn’t have anything, while the goddess has the heavens. Among the clouds, she is a prisoner of her divinity, and is prohibited to walk with mortals. Above the sky, she observes the daily life of humans, when a young man caught her attention.
The man has a kind heart, but even if he help others, people thinks low of him, for he is nothing but a man of no social status, he is nothing but a slave. The goddess watches the man as he help people carry their things, feed beggars and play with children. Slowly, she found herself falling for a mortal, for she has an unexplainable feeling deep within her towards the man. One day, she can’t help but meet the man, thus, she broke the law of the heavens and descended to Earth disguised as an old woman. The Ruler of all Gods and Goddesses learned about her act and sent a ferocious lion to slay the defiant goddess. As the disguised goddess walk to find the man, the lion appeared before her, with its fangs and claws that can reap flesh, it attacked her. But just before the lion strike, the heroic man used his body as a shield, and tried to stop the lion. The town’s people are witnessing the battle. The lion is strong, and it overpowered the man. The man was helpless, as the lion is about to slay him. The goddess can’t just stand to see her beloved die, all after his heroism. The goddess revealed her true identity to everyone, she shines like the sun in the morning sky, and her beauty is enchanting. She used her powers to tame the lion before it preys on her beloved. The lion stopped its attack. The man is in awe, as a goddess stand before him. The Ruler of the heavens is furious and punished the goddess. She has been stripped with all her divine powers and will live as a mortal. That moment, the ruler told the former goddess that she will never be able to go back to heaven. The goddess replied; I have already found my heaven, where I can be free. She confessed to the man, that she loves him. Puzzled, the man asked what she saw in a slave like him. She said that the man before her isn’t a slave, but a person with a noble heart.
Mortal you may be, whose feet may not reach the heavens, but your heart touched mine, a heart so kind that it turns earth into a heavenly place.”
She finished her story with a smile.
The goddess was willing to lose all she has in exchange for her love towards the mortal. Their difference didn’t become a reason for them to love each other. It was a beautiful story, that it encouraged me to tell her how I feel as well. Thus I did. I faced her, and gave her the gift I’m hiding from her. She was surprised about what I did. She asked:
“A gift for me, what for?” her eyes are confused, as she hold the gift with her tender hands.
I gathered all the courage I could muster and said the words I wanted to tell her.
“Umh, that is a gift from the bottom of my heart…..you see…I want to show you, how important you are….to me…because..…I…I…just want to tell you….that…I LOVE YOU.”
Silence filled the air, as we stare at each other blushing, and then tears fell down from her emerald eyes. I can’t believe what I’m seeing, and asked why.
“I….we can’t…….You have no idea, how different we are from each other…..” She turned her back at me and run away crying.
My goddess is running away from me, farther and farther. Just when she inspired me with her story, it was her who doesn’t believe in the romance of the goddess and the slave. I guess this isn’t a fairy tale with a happy ending. ….We are different? I was left alone wondering what she means ….why are we now separated by our differences?
