Outside the World of Dreams by Hokage3 Outside the World of Dreams by Hokage3
Crossing the Line of Reality

Feature Class

All this time, I’m living in a world of dreams, a place where wonderful things come to life. This is one of my favorite places, for here I enjoy freedom. I can play all day in that paradise, laughing with my friends, not worrying about the mystery of the future as the lively sun sets and the sleeping moon rises. Time passed by, and this world became smaller and smaller, my freedom slowly getting shorter and shorter. I noticed one of the fences have an opening, and a path that leads to an unfamiliar place, yet it is abundant of signs and cordons that tell me to keep myself away from the place beyond that line. I’m curious, what’s that realm outside the world of dreams? Time passes by even faster, as I age, I gain knowledge, of the truth, and of what is that place beyond dreams. I wanted to live in this world forever, but we all have to grow up. I bid goodbye to my childhood, and on to the next stage of my life, as I stand in front of that line, where the world of dream ends. That world is calling me, a call I mustn’t resist.

I learned that that world is called Reality, a place where I should go when I reached a certain period in my life. I am scared, anxious, worried if I can still be able to have fun like I used to on the other side. Is the world of reality full of wonderful things too? Is reality a place where a person who isn’t a child anymore be able to live free of sorrow? When I feel like that world is being harsh to me, may I still be able to go back to the world of dreams? Am I allowed to dream in a world of reality without being laughed at? I may not be ready to cross the line between dreams and reality, but all I can do is to brace myself, and face a new land of wonder that awaits me.

Maybe, just maybe, the world of reality is where I truly belong, and I’m just a visitor in the world of dreams all this while….(giggles) What a childish thought that is.

Agree, I believe we should never lose that child-like wondering towards our world,
or else we'll see it as a dull reality devoid of fascinating things...(^_^)

Personally, I've run into so many emotionally immature adults with entitlement issues that I'm not sure there is a clear boundary. Usually it's the same people who think it's about age or experience.

We are adults now, and it's up to us decide what that means. Not to let simpletons with a superiority complex and unquestioned loyalty to the establishment bully us into only living in ways our aging parents or grandparents would approve of.

Just my two peso.

Agree, being an adult is not about age, but about the set of mind. "Act as your age" as they say. Not everyone is prepared for adulthood, still, we have to grow up, we had our moment of childhood, short it maybe....but we have to move on in order for life to continue. We all have our way of being an adult, conventions that forces us to follow social rules shouldn't the template of one's life.

hehe, that's what I think...

Adulthood, for me, is reached when you see the bubble you lived in. That for the beginning part of your life, you were essentially a parasite. That your parents and adults in your life essentially tried to make your life Heaven. They expect nothing in return but your eventually being willing to give back to the society that made it possible.

It's got nothing to do with your passions, interests, or what inspires or entertains you but some people don't seem to understand that.

Nice thought there...hehe, come to think of it, you are right....Adulthood is when you become "unselfish"...when you learn to give a part of yourself to others willingly...the way our parents raised us unconditionally...It's the period in life when you start seeking for the truth, what is real  ...(yes childhood is selfish hehe)

Agree, which annoys me when someone labels you immature just because you are outside the "norm".....

For me one of the main challenges of life is to carry on that unselfish epiphany but retain the magic of the eden you came from.

That's what your picture says to me.

True, the balance of unselfishness and keeping your eyes full of wonder......curiosity and imagination unique to being young. That wonderland never disappears, only forgotten.....subconsciously, we wanted to experience it again.

(^_^)she doesn't want to face adulthood, even though that dreamworld is a part of her that she can go back to, and that obstacle is just her rejecting that fact...she must wake up now...
