Happy FiestaFeature Class
People working, people running, as they chase for the ever fast time of the changing world. Wary are their bodies, as they spend their days with sweat and tears, for the sake of their loved ones they cherish the most. It is with this noble intention that they are rewarded, of a day to take things easy and celebrate life. It is the time when we are thankful for the blessings that we are shared with, and show our appreciation to the heavens through playful sounds, colorful decorations and fanciful dances. People may celebrate for different kinds of reason, but all agree to one thing, and that is the time when everyone becomes merry and forgets to chase time for the moment. It is when we stop, and look back at the beautiful things that we had along the way, that we start to find a way on how we can show our gratitude and thankfulness. It is a miracle of a day when tradition transcends the demands of the modern age and when we become more in touch with our human side, with creativity and grace. With our dance, we move the dynamic motion of our overwhelming feelings. With our music, we share the lively beat of happiness. With our colors, we show the cheerful ambience us humans are fond of. We may differ on the reason of our gathering, but the fact that we celebrate life is what makes each celebration ever more special. People of young and old, from different places of different races, all have smile on their faces, as they witness an occasion fashioned by culture itself. Culture gives each celebration a special taste which is ever sweeter for all busy bodies who’d work with their hearts to organize an event for everyone. It is a showcase of humans endearing love for togetherness and fun, it is a day of delicious foods, beautiful sights, wonderful sounds and above all, amazing people. So what are you waiting for, join us and let’s have fun in our Festival.
This artwork is dedicated to
. This artwork came to completion with the motive of answering her question once asked to me some time ago. She asked me “How Asian are Filipinos?” I did promise her that I will answer the question in due time, and even though it is quite late since the question was asked months ago, it is a typical Hokage moment to pass his assignment far later than the deadline……and in normal terms, I’ll fail this homework. Anyways, my Answer is Festival, for me it is what defines Asia, and we Filipinos are Asians because of our Festivals.
Ok, my answer is festival, not food; close second, or anything else. Asia in many ways is really attached to its reach tradition and culture. The strong spiritual beliefs of many Asian countries became significant for each country to become one with nature and God. Many honor patron saints and spirits of the land, thus festivals are born to give thanks to many bountiful blessings given by the divine. Unlike some rituals sprouting from the west, Asian festivals are religious, and focus on celebrating life. Combined with the rich cultural influences of other countries, Asia has upheld its beautiful tradition while keeping phase with the modern world and with it the way we celebrate our festivals. Festivals are the face of humanity, of how we long to have fun and celebrate what we have. It is a very colorful, grand way of saying “Thank you”, and is an event worth being involved with. Asians celebrate more festivals, and what makes the Philippines unique is that we are a country of festivals, where festivals are celebrated all year round. It is a testament as to how we appreciate blessings in life and how willing each and every one to gather and have fun for a reason. What makes Filipinos Asian is the way we value religion and festivals, but what makes Filipinos special, is how we value our celebrations, and how this makes us a very happy place, filled with joyful people. Festivals reflect not just our culture as Asians collectively, but as Filipinos who have a rich culture of its own. Finally, I chose festival to be a very Asian trait since Asians have such a close bond with each other and with our family which gives our celebrations more colorful. I hope I answered the question well…(^_^)
