Happy Fiesta

Feature Class

People working, people running, as they chase for the ever fast time of the changing world. Wary are their bodies, as they spend their days with sweat and tears, for the sake of their loved ones they cherish the most. It is with this noble intention that they are rewarded, of a day to take things easy and celebrate life. It is the time when we are thankful for the blessings that we are shared with, and show our appreciation to the heavens through playful sounds, colorful decorations and fanciful dances. People may celebrate for different kinds of reason, but all agree to one thing, and that is the time when everyone becomes merry and forgets to chase time for the moment. It is when we stop, and look back at the beautiful things that we had along the way, that we start to find a way on how we can show our gratitude and thankfulness. It is a miracle of a day when tradition transcends the demands of the modern age and when we become more in touch with our human side, with creativity and grace. With our dance, we move the dynamic motion of our overwhelming feelings. With our music, we share the lively beat of happiness. With our colors, we show the cheerful ambience us humans are fond of. We may differ on the reason of our gathering, but the fact that we celebrate life is what makes each celebration ever more special. People of young and old, from different places of different races, all have smile on their faces, as they witness an occasion fashioned by culture itself. Culture gives each celebration a special taste which is ever sweeter for all busy bodies who’d work with their hearts to organize an event for everyone. It is a showcase of humans endearing love for togetherness and fun, it is a day of delicious foods, beautiful sights, wonderful sounds and above all, amazing people. So what are you waiting for, join us and let’s have fun in our Festival.

Note:
This artwork is dedicated to :iconanirhapsodist:. This artwork came to completion with the motive of answering her question once asked to me some time ago. She asked me “How Asian are Filipinos?” I did promise her that I will answer the question in due time, and even though it is quite late since the question was asked months ago, it is a typical Hokage moment to pass his assignment far later than the deadline……and in normal terms, I’ll fail this homework. Anyways, my Answer is Festival, for me it is what defines Asia, and we Filipinos are Asians because of our Festivals.

Ok, my answer is festival, not food; close second, or anything else. Asia in many ways is really attached to its reach tradition and culture. The strong spiritual beliefs of many Asian countries became significant for each country to become one with nature and God. Many honor patron saints and spirits of the land, thus festivals are born to give thanks to many bountiful blessings given by the divine. Unlike some rituals sprouting from the west, Asian festivals are religious, and focus on celebrating life. Combined with the rich cultural influences of other countries, Asia has upheld its beautiful tradition while keeping phase with the modern world and with it the way we celebrate our festivals. Festivals are the face of humanity, of how we long to have fun and celebrate what we have. It is a very colorful, grand way of saying “Thank you”, and is an event worth being involved with. Asians celebrate more festivals, and what makes the Philippines unique is that we are a country of festivals, where festivals are celebrated all year round. It is a testament as to how we appreciate blessings in life and how willing each and every one to gather and have fun for a reason. What makes Filipinos Asian is the way we value religion and festivals, but what makes Filipinos special, is how we value our celebrations, and how this makes us a very happy place, filled with joyful people. Festivals reflect not just our culture as Asians collectively, but as Filipinos who have a rich culture of its own. Finally, I chose festival to be a very Asian trait since Asians have such a close bond with each other and with our family which gives our celebrations more colorful. I hope I answered the question well…(^_^)

How long do you make artwork with full BG?

Sorry for the late reply....

Hmm, it did took a while for me to finish this, since I'm just starting to understand BG's and while in the process, is trying to learn how things work...on and off, it took more than a month......possibly two months......now I imagine how I did this

heh, it's easy to get frustrated and impatient when an artwork isn't going the way you want it, but for me, I rather have 1 beautiful artwork that I worked for in weeks, than 5 average artworks done in days.....be patient, you mustn't rush art...be in your pace, you'll be surprised that you've made a wonderful artwork..

Agree! I've been drawing since I was a kid. It's certainly is my fault that I never learned to focus on an artwork for more than a day maximum. It's either I finish it now or never! =_= Good thing I'm learning to control myself. two months eh... hmm should plan it very well to be like that. hehehe :iconicwhatyoudidthereplz:

Same here, art is my buddy since childhood....it's good to actually do things faster..but not rushed....like finishing it for the sake of getting rid of it...

I love planning before making artworks.....researching is a fun part...to make things a little accurate, I look for references....I even put myself inside the artwork...and decide what I want to see there....observe my surroundings...even in a wacky manner..(As of now, my Christmas artwork needs a lower eye-view....so I've been kneeling in public to get an insight....like a boss)

Aww, that's too much a compliment...I love Hayao Miyazaki's BG artworks, they serve as an inspiration to me..and be at least at par with it. I still have a lot to learn, but will people like you who believes in me, I'm sure I can do it...Thanks..and I know you can do it as well, I see your improvement from one artwork to another...you are a good artist, believe me...(^_^)..you can do it, nothing's impossible if you try your best...

high level?!? :iconpapmingplz:
Hmm yeah here is my opinion..
I'll just go straight to the point on this one aspect and I won't criticize other aspects, as they are wonderfully done already.

Now, guess what aspect is this?
- a photographer have to adjust his camera lenses, and sometimes move his body, in order to achieve a good level of this aspect; sometimes he just can't get it perfect because of the terrain / circumstances / weather / etc.
- but an artist have full control of this aspect with ease. an artist can manipulate this aspect to their heart's content, and the limit is just his imagination.

That aspect is focus, focal point.
How well you create and emphasize the focal point, how well can you guide the viewers' eyes to the focal point, possibly at a first glance?

This artwork is so full of people doing festival thing, each doing different things, different poses n expressions.
Now that's okay, focus usually doesn't matter much with this kind of settings, it's even okay having some elements equally strong;
But what I noticed here is: you're trying to have a focal point here, that's the girl in the front.

The problem is; at first glance, my eyes didn't see the focus immediately, and I need quite some time to "find" where the focus is.
That simply means the focus is currently weak; so it needs to be improved.
How to measure it:
The less time needed for viewer to "find" the focus, means the better focused it is.

Anyways, a picture worth thousand words, so I tried to change it somehow: [link]
It didn't turn out quite right, but you get the idea.
Somehow my eyes get guided faster that way. Maybe you know other methods that works, just try it on. ^^

Yep that's my opinion, thanks for reading :D

Focus....Gawd, I really did miss it....heh, it is as important as the artwork itself, yet I didn't saw it...for that I thank you for noticing...

I didn't used the rule of thirds here..(Probably the only rule I know)...and I wonder why?....*tried to recall.....oh yeah, perspective...been blinded by executing perspective I forgot to abide to certain rules....seems my photography days didn't sink into me heh.....

True, the focal point should have been the smiling girl in the middle...and with your version, she did became an effective focal point due to her being in sight without the eyes struggling to look for her....and it is a very important thing to keep in mind..up to now I'm not following rules at all....seems it is a wrong approach in art....*Even the artwork I'm doing now has no rules applied to it...*Hooray....:iconsobplz:

Thus, after this eye-opening, enlightening lecture, I learned quite a lot that will help improve my art....and with that I can't thank you a lot for this help...you being concerned about others prove how kind you are, and I respect you even more with that trait...

So, to not let this effort of yours be in vain, I'll apply what I've learned on my next next artwork....I hope I won't disappoint...*Is excited already...(^_^)

Thanks again..and sorry for the long reply....

Backgrounds are something that I desperately need to work on. I prefer to draw just characters, but the background adds a lot to the mood.
How am I? Actually, I like the new city I'm living in. I have a feeling good things will happen for me here. :)

Well, I certainly like them. :D

"do the small things, and the big things handle themselves. One thing leads to another,
and once you put one foot in front of the other, each step one at a time,
sooner or later you look up, and there you are: right where you were headed all along."

Well it turns out I fiddled around with it so much that I wound up heating and softening the tape.
Then it lost all of it's rigidity, slackened out, and could not hold the wires in place after that.
I'll have to try again sometime, but go slowly so that I don't soften the tape again.
